History of Nsoromma Youth Entrepreneurs
The youth at Nsoromma School have embarked on a unique program to demonstrate Ujaama -- Cooperative Economics -- to improve their community. The program is called Nsoromma Youth Entrepreneurs (NYE), a group where children learn both educational and practical applications of entrepreneurship. The students learn skills such as marketing, public speaking, teamwork, salesmanship, fiscal management, strategic- planning and inventory control.
The youth have created a diverse, unique line of ethnic flowers in fabrics ranging from African fabric, leather, mink and burlap. They have also created vases for their flowers. The community's reception to the flowers has been overwhelming and the youth have marketed their flowers throughout metro-Atlanta and outside of Georgia. NYE has partnered with Metropolitan Atlanta Kwanzaa Association (MAKA), and National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), and has sold products at Spelman College, Juneteenth Celebrations, and in numerous restaurants and shops in Atlanta. NYE students have demonstrated their commitment to Nsoromma by contributing a portion of their revenue and profits to the school.
Recently, NYE has expanded the product lines to include high quality oils, soap and rings as well as flower and vase products. The youth have also included landscaping services and woodworking as additional business ventures.
